Speedometer History
The first speedometers were produced in the early 1900s. Speedometers were first offered as a factory-installed option. Ford began production of the Model T Ford in October 1908, a speedometer was offered as a factory-installed option. Then in 1913, Ford began offering a $6.00 rebate on 1914 cars that were not equipped with a speedometer. During 1915, Ford ceased offering the speedometer as standard equipment.
